9 Feb 2010 09:00 Uponor Corporation PRESS RELEASE 9 February 2010 Uponor makes a donation to Aalto University The Board of Directors of Uponor Corporation has decided to donate EUR 400,000 to the capital of the Aalto University foundation. With this donation, Uponor wishes to contribute to the development of Finnish cutting-edge expertise as well as the building of future competitiveness. "We want to be part of the united front of Finnish companies that aims to ensure and maintain a high level of expertise in Finland. In the long run, this will benefit the whole of Finnish society," CEO Jyri Luomakoski explains. Luomakoski considers the strategic focus areas of Aalto University - service sciences, energy and the sustainable use of natural resources, and a human-oriented living environment - to be firmly in line with Uponor's operating principles and objectives. Aalto University's foundation capital will have a considerable impact on the new university. "The foundation capital allows us to invest heavily in enhancing the quality of research and teaching. We will also offer companies entirely new cooperation opportunities," says Jari Jokinen, Development Manager of Aalto University. On 1 January 2010, the Helsinki School of Economics, the School of Art and Design and the Helsinki University of Technology merged to form Aalto University. This new foundation-based University will be provided with the financial conditions needed to develop into a world-class research and teaching institution. The Confederation of Finnish Industries EK is committed to raising EUR 200 million for the Aalto University foundation by the end of 2010. Meanwhile, the Government of Finland will invest 2.5 times the amount raised by EK, up to EUR 500 million. Aalto University has 20,000 students.
